Cayo Largo del Sur is the
official name while Cayo Largo is used for the short version. The island or "cayo" is located in at the eastern end
of Los Canarreos Archipelago which is also known as Jardines de la Reina. Cayo Largo del Sur covers an area of 37
square kilometers and is part of the province of the Isla de la Juventud. The cayo is 135 kilometers from Nueva
Gerona (the capital of the Isla de la Juventud) and is 125 kilometers from the south coast of
Cienfuegos.

The name of this destination comes from its long shape, and its
history dates from the aboriginal period, since remains and artifacts from the Siboney culture have been found on
the cayo. Admiral Christopher Columbus landed on Cayo Largo del Sur in 1494, and many corsairs and pirates turned
